YOU WILL NEED:
- Approximately 50 ft. of white LEHIGH Nylon Seine Twine (NST1814)
- L4 in. x 6 in. piece of medium-weight cardboard
- 18 in. of 24-gauge "gold" craft wire
- 20mm white wooden bead
- 4 in. square white paper
- Scissors
- Wire cutters
- Needle nose pliers
- White glue
|
| Instructions: |
- Cut 33 ft. of cord. Beginning and ending on the same 4 in. edge (bottom), wrap the cord around the piece of cardboard 32 times.
- Cut a 15 in. length of cord and slide it under the wrappings at the top edge of tassel unit and tie the wrappings together tightly. Tie the remaining ends of this tie together using an overhand knot to create a hanger. Apply a drop of glue to each of the knots to secure and let dry.
- Cut wrappings from cardboard along the bottom edge.
- Thread the hanger through the hole in the white bead, apply a spot of glue to the inside of the bead and slide it down onto the tassel unit until the knot shows at the top of the bead. Let dry.
- Cut an 18 in. length of cord and apply a drop of glue to one end to prevent unraveling.
- Starting just below the bead with the glued end of cord, wrap the cord tightly in rows around tassel unit 10 times.
- After the wrapping is complete, trim the cord to 1/2 in. length, apply a drop of glue to the end of the cord and tuck the end under the wrappings and let dry.
- Cut four 36 in. lengths of cord. Align one end of each cord and tie them together using an overhand knot.
- Using macrame square knots, braid the cords together for 3-1/4 in. to form the arm unit. Alternate (from side to side) going over and under the two center cords to keep the braid from twisting. Click here for instructions on tying square knots.
- Use an overhand knot to tie remaining ends together next to last braid. Trim both ends of arm unit to 1/4 in. and apply a drop of glue to knots to secure. Let dry.
- Cut an 18 in. length of gold wire and fold it in half to find the center point.
- Unfold the wire and center it over the tassel unit at the base of the wrappings.
- Wrap each end of wire completely around the tassel unit once by pulling both ends of wire around to the back and bring it around to the front again.
- Cross the wires over the front of wrapping on tassel unit. Bring the ends of the wire up toward the bottom of bead.
- Wrap wach end of wire completely around the tassel unit again just below the bead and ending at the back of tassel unit.
- Twist the wires together at the back of tassel unit and slide the wire up under the bead and out the top. Form the twisted wire into a halo above the bead.
- Fold the arm unit in half to find the center point. Apply a drop of glue to the center of the arm unit and glue it to the back of tassel unit just below the white bead. Let dry.
- Lightly draw or trace an outline of an angel wing onto a piece of white paper. Wing should be approximately 2 in. high and 2 in long.
- Fold the paper in half aligning the fold of the paper with the base of the wing.
- Cut out wings and unfold them. Lightly draw another line about 1/4 in. inside the outline of wings.
- Cut a 36 in. length of cord. Starting at center point between the wings, apply a line of glue along the edge of paper to outline them. Press the cord into the glue to cover. Continue covering all lines on paper with glue and cord. Trim excess cords away and apply a drop of glue to ends, let dry.
- Using glue, attach the center of the front side of wings to the back of tassel unit over the back of arm unit.
- Separate the stands of the cord in tassel angel and trim to approximately 3-1/2 in. below the bead.
